Final Film Opening

This is our final film opening after many troubles with timing we finally were able to cut it down to the correct length and still have it make sense and flow poprerly

Camera

This is a Canon Power Shot digital camera, films in HD up to 4 hours and everything is held on a memory card. From experience the filming quality is amazing. I have used it at concerts and the sound is also incredible. Battery powered. It is able to be placed on a school tripod.

This camera can zoom in a long way so small objects can get good close ups. Even zooms are good quality. 

Editing

Overall

The overall editing went well as a lot of the shots were easy enough to edit. The editing was done on a mac book pro. Most of the editing was done by me although some aspects were contributed by the rest of my group. 

What went well when editing: 

1. It was easy to be able to get it too look how we wanted it too look, with the framing and sequencing of the shots
2. With our shots they had enough extra filming around it to play around with it
3. There were some really good places to insert the credits like the tie and the fridge shots

What was difficult when editing: 

1. When I did the first edit of the whole opening it was 3 and a half minutes long meaning it was over by 1 minute 
2. Talking to the others it was hard to decide what we would cut, was by this stage we didn't have anything except the content of the opening edited together, however we decided to cut the first section with the police cars and Robbie running through the door. We also changed where we would have the voice over.
3. The colour in some of the shots didn't work too well as we filmed part of it during the day and part in the evening, however now we are not using that bit we don't need to use the parts where the dark was necessary.

Creating the Production Name Animation

It has taken a long time to come up with what we were going to use for the animation at the start of our opening. At first we wanted the words 'Scratch Productions' to come up then the three scratch marks to go through it with the sound effect of someone being scratched. However this turned out to be virtually impossible as it tried so many different animation applications and i couldn't work out how to do it. In the end I came up with the idea of using a time lapse of the sky. This was done on my iPhone using the time lapse setting on the camera. Luckily the day I did this it was cloudy and wasn't raining. I then Watched many youtube tutorials and messed around in iMovie to work out how to ayer an image on top of a video. The finished thing is the video with the image layered on top using the green screen setting within iMovie. I think that it turned out really well.

Make Up For Real Filming

This is Robbie with the make up that we used for our filming of Robbie. The Bruises were done by Faith using face paints. Applying it with brushes and sponges. I did the blood on the broken nose and down the face around the mouth. We added smudges of blood to the shirt to make him look more punched up. Then we added it to the knuckles so it looked like Robbie had been punching people.

2nd Make Up Trial

Once we had started to shoot the opening we did the parts we didn't need make up for first. Then we did another trial before doing the actual make up.

Black Eye Trial

I think that this didn't go that well as the colours weren't dark enough. For our filming day we will have a bruise wheel and fake blood to make it look more realistic as its quite obvious that its just make up.

About half way through I think thats when the left hand side eye looks the best. This is the side that faith did and i like it more than my side because she used darker blues and blacks than me which made it look more realistic. Also the fact that she but a bruise on his cheek bone makes it look more dramatic.

My side looked a little too blue as I used the light blue instead of the dark blue this made it look really fake. The other thing that I didn't like was that i pushed the cooer out too far around the eye and down

Change in Cast

Due to a change of dates, Leo can no longer be a part of our film opening, as he is away for the dates that we would want to film. For this reason Robbie will be playing the part of Jack in our film. Despite the short notice, we now need to think through should dee need to add sciences and edit parts last minute.

Continuous long shot down the hall 

(A view of the hall, with the front door at the end, and a window slightly to the side. The house id obviously the home of only males, with trainers scattered and old mail on the floor. It is a peaceful scene. Suddenly, police sirens can be heard, rapidly increasing in volume. At the peak of the wail, flashing police lights can be seen, and we hear several cars rush by. There is a screech of tires; car doors open and a gunfight can be heard, with angry shouts.)

Police commissioner: (Via a megaphone) Tony, give it up, we know who you are, there’s nowhere to run!

(We see- through the window- Jack. He is 17 years old, wearing a tatty, ripped suit, and a wounded face. He runs to the door, desperately knocking against it, trying to enter. We hear him fumble for his keys, swearing randomly as he does. After a small struggle, he bursts through the door. He slams it behind him, and leans against it, exhausted and terrified.)

Mid-shot of Jack. 

(He is beaten and bloody, as if he had been in a fight or a car crash. He is missing his suit jacket, his shirt is filthy and ripped, and he is clutching at his leg, as if it hurts considerably.)

(He is breathing heavily. Suddenly the screen pauses, and Jack’s name flashes on screen.)

Jack: (Narration) Oh, you alright? You’re err, you’re probably wondering how I landed myself in this particular predicament. Well, it’s a bit of a long story.

(The action resumes, and we see Jack stagger up the stairs. He limps into the bathroom, the camera stopping at the doorway. He catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror and pauses.)

(He is shocked at how he looks. He tentatively touches his face, and reflects upon all he has seen.)

Jack: (Narration) Maybe I should start at the beginning.

(He turns and heads toward the shower, undressing as he does. We see him turn the shower on, and the water run. He turns it off. He gets out the shower, and goes to the mirror, which is now steamed up, so we cannot see Jacks face. He wipes the mirror, as he does ‘1 week earlier’ pops up on screen. He is smiling, his face untouched.

(The music starts playing- an upbeat indie Brit rock style, which changes the tempo of the scene. Jack begins drying himself off. He sees himself in the mirror, and begins checking himself out, leaving with a cheeky wink. He struts down the hall, into his room. It is a typical teenage boys room, with posters on the wall, clothes strewn everywhere and a general sense of organised squalor.)

Shot through his legs.

(A credit is on the floor. Jack drops his towel, which covers it. Just as he does, his Dad walks in through the door. They both have a panic.)

Jack: Jesus Christ Dad! Get out!

Dad: (From behind the now closed door.) Sorry sorry sorry!

(Quick cut shots of Jack getting dressed into his school suit. He does his tie up, and a credit follows his knot. He rushes down the stairs, and turns into the kitchen.)

Wide shot of the kitchen (The kitchen is clean, and a glass of juice of juice sits next to a toaster with bread resting inside. Jack presses down on the toaster. The bread pops up, along with a credit. He spreads butter on it, a credit following. He quickly munches it down, and then goes to leave. He quickly comes back, downs the juice, then leaves the kitchen. He picks up his bag, and swings it over his shoulder.)

Same shot as the first, looking down the hall. (He walks toward the front door and opens it. He looks back.)

Jack: See ya Dad!

(He leaves the house.)

Close up of Jacks head. (As Jack locks up, a hand suddenly grips his shoulder. He is shocked and turns, but relaxes when he sees who it is.) 

Jack: Oh, hello Uncle Tony, you alright?

Tony: Hello Jacky. I’m doing alright. You stay out of trouble now.

Jack: Yeah yeah sure thing.

(Without ever seeing Tony’s face, we see Jack walk off down the path.)

Music For opening

For our film opening we are going to be using 'Let me in' by the Parkas. They are band from Hadlow, Kent. The age ranges from 17 - 24. 

Iconic sounds

Here we have a few examples of some Iconic sounds that suit our genre. we are yet to experiment with Foley sound which is hand created noises but will do so in the upcoming weeks. 

Research into production name animations

These are the three most well known film production companies along with Fox. For ours being scratch productions we were thinking of having the three scratch marks coming through the wording with a sound effect. And a murky black back ground.

Production name and logo

As we are doing a thriller, crime film we thought of the name 'Scratch Productions' brings out the films aggressive nature. It also helps to describe that there is some sort of torture within the film. 

This is our first design for our logo. Only created on word with an image put on top of the text with the background removed. I am going to hand draw it so that it complies with copyright.

Films are rated to warn people of the content. They are there to prevent certain age groups seeing thinks that could have a bad influence on their lives

Why have we chosen this background? 

we have chosen as a group to have landscapes of London as the background of our blogs because, it links in with our genre. Many crime/gangster films are set within towns and we have also decided to shoot our in Croydon (South London) so this works well. Also we have all gone with similar coloured themes such as reds and blacks.

This is how I would describe our main character Jack 

Talent sourcing

Leo is a 17 boy, who attends an acting school at the weekends along with my group member faith. We thought that he would be suitable as he is the right age for the role, looks good, has a cheeky look to him and is a good actor on stage and film. In the past he has been within in short films, so he understands the dedication that is needed and that he is reliable. 

Location

Why have we chosen this: 

We have chosen to film our opening here because, we wanted somewhere the door opened in the hallway and out of my group this was the only house possible. Also the fact that it is located in croydon (south London) kind of fits with the background of the whole narrative. Even though it is a family home i think i could be quite east to make into a male orientated home.
