Animatic

This is our story board along with all music and sounds that we drafted in our storyboard. I think that when we film it the shots are going to last less time than shown in this. This animatic is only just under the time limit.

Final Storyboard

This is our final story board which includes all alterations, with details typed up beneath. We had many issues with the flow of the shots so these had to be moved round a few times.

Opening sequence

Our opening, is going to be complicated to shoot within the 2 and half minute limit. However we are going to have to over film a lot of footage so that we then have a lot of material to work with.

What's happening in our opening:

In our opening Jack the main character has come home from a day of school, cut and bruised all over his body. Where his uniform is all cut and shredded. He comes homes trying to get inside quickly and runs upstairs to the bathroom to see in the mirror the state he is at. He turns on the hot water tap to clear up his face. The mirror fogs up and he wipes it and as he does this it flashes back to him on another day getting out the shower. When he then goes into his room and his dad walks in on him getting changed. Jack gets embarrassed and tells him to get out.



Action

Below I have made a word cloud with all the words that I associate with action films. I asked my friends what they thought as well to get a wider range of words.

Film Opening Research

We had to find a film that we thought had a good opening scene with a range of angles and shots. I decided to go with Skyfall as it has a lot of stuff in just the opening scene. In the link below you can see my analysis of some of the credits and opening shots.

Narrative 1

Genre:

This narrative is based on films like, Kick Ass and Hot Fuzz where there's action and comedy. We decided on using this as a background and chose action crossed with dark comedy as our theme. 

 

Characters within the opening:

• Jack 
• The father
• The uncle

The Plot: 

Jack a normal school boy around the age of 17 or 18 so in sixth form. He lives with his father, and they have a very strong relationship with Jacks uncle. 

One day jack is over at his uncles and is doing something on the computer when he comes across a very strange video of his uncle torturing someone and the uncle realises that he now knows. 

For the main part of the film its to do with Jack trying to prove to the police that he's uncle is doing this to more than one person, but at the same time his uncle is after him trying to make sure that the police don't find out or believe him. This results in his uncle trying to kill him. 

After 2 days of constant abuse from his uncle and phone calls to the police about this issue the police finally get evidence of this happening and the uncle is arrested. 

Narrative 2

We wanted a change from narrative 1 and this was just a random idea of a film that we came up with in a very short period of time.

 

Genre:

Psychological, comedy and sci-fi all mixed together

Characters within the opening:

• Phoebe Brown the daughter
• Phil Brown the father
• Amanda Brown the mother
• Jacob Brown the son

Plot:

The browns are having an argument over dinner to with the daughter having underage sex with her long term boyfriend.

While having dinner they hear a high pitched noise from outside and all turn to the window. The dad goes to open the door too see a UFO light, and the rest of the family are looking out the window.

The father and the family try and tell the police that they saw this but they do not believe them.

The rest of the family convince themselves that they did not see this but the father keeps seeing it in his head and can't forget it.

He then starts to go slightly mental and mad and he kills the mother and then the daughter kills the father and the two children end up in care.



Final Pre Lim and Evaluation

Our first Preliminary task , didn't match the requirements as we had to include:

• 180 degree rule
• Shot reverse shot 
• Match on action 
• Continuity

We missed out the shot reverse shot with dialogue so we re-shot a section that included this. 

What I liked about this task? 

1. I liked that the shots were complicated and when they were all edited together they worked well. We weren't sure if they would work in the way that they did. 
2. We worked our way around filming when Hayley was dressed as a zombie with loads of stage make up. I think that we thought everything out clearly enough to plan the shots that didn't mean we had to see her face
3. We used a lot of different camera angles which adds to the pace of the clip, also kind of seats the idea that she is late to her lesson.

What I thought we could have done better? 

1. The first thing is that in one section of this you see Hayley lying on the floor, then the next she is suddenly standing up. We missed the section of her getting up off the floor. This means that we didn't show continuity, which was one of the brief point
2. Some of the sound effects aren't realistic, as a school clock doesn't really make the sound that we put in over the top

If I were to do this again what would I do differently?

1. I think that if I were to do this again then I would make the shots less complicated as when editing it was hard to get the exact timing of the exact shot that we wanted.
